Final: UNC 4, NC State 0

Raleigh, NC- On night in which a new attendance record of 3,972 was on hand at Dail Soccer Park on the campus of North Carolina State University, the NC State Lady Wolfpack played host to the #1 UNC Lady Tar Heels in an old school Tobacco Road rivalry match.

The Tar Heels came in 7-0-4 overall and 2-0-1 in the ACC. The Wolfpack came in at 1-5-5 and 0-1-2 in the ACC. UNC took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute off the foot of Evelyn Shores off the corner from Emily Moxley. UNC extended the lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute on a strike from Tori Dellaperuta giving the Lady Tar Heels a lead they would not relinquish.

NC State continued to extend their offensive pressure throughout the rest of the first half and finished the half strong with 2 shots and 2 shots on goal. UNC ended the first half with 6 shots and 3 shots on goal total.

Less than 1 minute in to the 2nd half, lightning struck again for the Lady Tar Heels though, as Ally Sentnor hit the back of the net to give the lady Tar Heels a 3-0 lead. In the 82nd minute UNCs Kayleigh Herr added a 4th goal for the Lady Tar Heels making it 4-0 UNC. UNC ended the game with 21 total shots and 9 shots on goal.

After the game, head coach Tim Santoro met with the media and gave his thoughts on the Lady Wolfpack effort:

“We were ready to play.We only had one game this week. College soccer isn’t meant to be played twice a week and we only had one game this week so we were able to put all of our energy in to it and focus on it and that’s what we did and I think that helped with the energy level tonight. “

Next up for the Wolfpack is a road game in Blacksburg as they take on Virginia Tech. Gametime is set for 8 pm on Thursday October 5th.
